From 1937 to 2026: The Story of a Restoration

We can hardly imagine the end of May without a visit to the Čiernohronská Railway. It is a place where historic railcars and the beautiful scenery of the Horehronie region create an atmosphere that captivates every railway and history enthusiast.

This year, once again, we packed our tools, paints, and rollers to help preserve a piece of our technical heritage. This time, we had the opportunity to work on a truly unique vehicle – the historic four-axle motor railcar M21.0, originally manufactured in 1937.

The restoration of this nearly 90-year-old railway veteran required a precise and careful approach. The first stage was carried out by MET-KOV, which completely abrasive blasted the railcar. We then hand-sanded the entire surface to ensure it was perfectly prepared for the coating application.

Particular attention was also paid to masking. We used Deltec masking tapes, which helped us achieve sharp lines and a clean finish. The coatings were applied using Anza rollers and brushes.

To protect the structure, we applied Temacoat GPL as a primer, creating a reliable anti-corrosion layer. The final coat was then spray-applied using Temadur 90 in its characteristic red shade, restoring the railcar’s historic appearance.

We are proud to have contributed once again to the preservation of technical heritage and to have helped bring another piece of railway history back to its former beauty. Our thanks go to all colleagues and partners who took part in this restoration project.
